Proposed Training Standards for Elder Mediation

I serve on various committees of the Elder section of the Association for Conflict Resolution.  One of these committees, made up of highly qualified professionals in the field of elder mediation, has proposed standards that should be applied for training of elder mediators.  Those proposed standards are listed below.  For consumers of mediation, I suggest that a mediator whose training fails to meet these standards is not optimally equipped to mediate a case involving complex issues, multiple parties, entrenched family dynamics, and needs of a vulnerable adult whose interests must be protected in the mediation process.
